Many people wonder whether their struggles are “serious enough” to start therapy. In reality, therapy is not only for moments of crisis. Many people begin therapy because they feel stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand, experience ongoing anxiety or emotional overwhelm, or want support navigating difficult life transitions.
Trauma therapy and individual counseling can help you understand how past experiences may still be influencing your emotions, relationships, and stress responses. If something in your life continues to feel heavy, confusing, or difficult to manage on your own, working with a therapist can help you gain clarity, develop coping skills, and feel more regulated. You do not have to wait until things feel unbearable to benefit from therapy.
Feeling nervous about starting therapy is very common. Many people feel unsure about what to expect from their first therapy session or worry about how much they will need to share.
Early sessions are typically focused on getting to know you, understanding what you are experiencing, and discussing your goals for therapy. Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, trauma, life stress, or emotional overwhelm, therapy moves at a pace that respects your comfort level and emotional readiness.
Online therapy also allows many people to feel more comfortable starting the process from the privacy of their own home.

Many people are surprised that past experiences can still affect their emotions, relationships, and stress responses years later.
When overwhelming or stressful events occur, the brain sometimes stores those memories differently. Instead of being fully processed, the nervous system may continue reacting as if the experience is still present. This can show up as anxiety, overthinking, emotional triggers, or difficulty feeling safe in certain situations.
Trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR therapy help the brain process those memories so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity. Many people find that trauma therapy allows them to remember past events without feeling overwhelmed by them.
Research has shown that teletherapy is as effective as in person therapy and comes with many benefits. You can attend the session anywhere at the scheduled time. No need to worry about commuting. We offer video chat using a HIPAA compliant platform.
Each session is generally 45-55 minutes long.
You may always call or email us to cancel or reschedule an appointment (email is hello@letstalkpsychotherapy.org). The policy is that all cancellations and reschedules must be 24 hours before the scheduled appointment to avoid a fee. Late cancellations and no shows have a $150 fee, that is charged to the client. Insurance cannot be charged for this fee

In the first session, you will have you complete all consent forms and intake documents sent through the therapy portal prior to the first session. During session, we will discuss confidentiality as well as take your payment. Then I will begin to hear your story and learn more about you and your goals for therapy.
The second and third sessions are typically a continuation of your story, getting to know you, your strengths and growth needs. We will form goals that are objective, meaning they will be specific, you will know how to reach them, and what life will look like when you reach those goals.
From that point on, sessions are tailored to meeting your goals, with check ins on how you feel progress is being made, changing, or adding goals, and helping you feel life satisfaction.
Frequently Asked Questions About EMDR
What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma therapy that helps the brain process experiences that never fully processed when they happened.
Instead of only understanding the past, we help your nervous system update it so the present stops reacting to it.
Does EMDR therapy actually work?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a research-supported trauma therapy used to help people process distressing memories and experiences that continue to affect emotional well-being.
EMDR therapy has been widely studied and is recognized by organizations such as the World Health Organization and the American Psychological Association as an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD. Many people find that EMDR helps reduce the emotional intensity connected to difficult memories so they no longer trigger the same stress responses. EMDR therapy can also be conducted through online therapy sessions when guided by a trained EMDR therapist.
Can EMDR help with childhood trauma?
Yes. Many adults continue to experience emotional responses connected to childhood experiences that were never fully processed at the time they occurred.
EMDR therapy helps the brain reprocess those earlier experiences so they no longer trigger the same emotional intensity in the present. Many clients find that processing childhood memories through trauma therapy helps reduce anxiety, emotional reactivity, and relationship patterns connected to those experiences.
EMDR therapy can help individuals move forward while feeling less controlled by the emotional impact of past events.
Will I Have to Relive the Experience?
No.
You stay aware of where you are and what’s happening in the session.
We’re not trying to make you re-experience events intensely — we’re helping your brain process them so they stop carrying the same emotional charge.
What if I don’t remember everything clearly?
You don’t need perfect memory for EMDR to work.
We work with what your mind and body already hold — images, emotions, physical sensations, or reactions.
Your system remembers more than your mind can always explain.
Is EMDR therapy safe?
Yes.
We go at a pace your nervous system can handle, and you can pause at any time.
Preparation and stabilization always come first before deeper processing.
We don’t force the brain — we help it finish what it started.
Does Online EMDR Therapy Actually Work?
Yes. I use a secure platform called RemoteEMDR, designed specifically for virtual EMDR sessions.
It allows guided eye movements and bilateral stimulation in a structured way — not just a video call — while you remain in your own environment.
Many clients actually process more comfortably from home.
How Long Does EMDR Take?
It depends on the experience.
Some specific memories resolve in a few sessions.
Longer or repeated experiences take more time.
The goal is resolution — not rushing.
Will I Feel Worse After Sessions?
Some people feel tired or reflective afterward, similar to after a deep conversation.
We pace sessions carefully so your system can integrate the work.
Most clients notice reactions gradually lose intensity over time.
Can EMDR Help Anxiety or Overthinking?
If anxiety or overthinking is connected to unresolved experiences — yes.
Instead of managing symptoms, EMDR helps remove the source that keeps activating them.
How Do I Know If EMDR Is Right for Me?
We decide together.
Not every session is EMDR, and therapy is tailored to what you need and when you’re ready.
Still have questions?
You can contact a licensed EMDR therapist in Florida to see if this approach fits you.
