Welcome! Bienvenido!
Hey there! My name is Leana Torrez, I am bilingual licensed mental health counselor in Florida. No matter what brought you here, it is my sincere desire to help you on your journey to living a better, more self-aware, more self-compassionate, more stable, and ultimately happier life.
From a very early age, I have always had a passion for helping others. As I grew older and immersed myself into the field of mental health, I began to realize that trauma played a significant role in shaping many of our lives. Which is why I have a passion for helping others overcome their traumas, so they can heal from within and start to live a more mentally and emotionally stable life. I enjoy helping people of all backgrounds and cultures. However I have a strong passion for helping those coping with trauma, infant mental health, cultural or racial identity issues.
Diversity and Inclusion are very important to me. I am a Latinx woman and I have seen first hand how marginalized communities have been underserved when it comes to their mental health. I have a passion for helping the BIPOC (Black Indigenous People Of Color) and LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Queer, Intersex, Pansexual and Allies) communities and removing the stigma associated with those seeking mental health counseling. I also want to use my expertise to bring more inclusion and representation into the mental health field.
Qualifications/Education
I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Miami (Go Canes!) After this, I earned my Master’s Degree in Science from Nova Southeastern University. I did my internship at Aventura hospital in Aventura FL. I am a specialist in trauma-informed care. I am a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and am currently in the process of obtaining my Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) certification and Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) certification
Professional Organizations
I am a member of the American Mental Health Counseling Association (AMHCA), Florida Mental Health Counseling Association (FMHCA) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA). I like to be up to date on the most evidence-based practices, to provide quality services to all my clients. I also like to be aware of the changing laws in my field, which is why I am a member of these organizations.
