Child and adolescence counseling
Being a kid or a teenager can be tough. You don’t have to do it alone
- Have you noticed changes in your child’s or teen’s mood?
- Are they withdrawn, staying in their room with the door closed all the time?
- Are they angry and acting out?
Growing up can be incredibly painful for children, and far too often, they are forced to go it alone or close to alone. As a parent, you try your very best, but no one is perfect. You have too many responsibilities, and juggling them all will lead to shortcomings. The truth is you shouldn’t have to do it all alone.
A child and adolescent therapist can not only drastically improve your child’s life experience but also immensely loosen your load as a parent.
Often teens will withdraw because they don’t want to talk to “mom or dad”. It could also be the strained communication within the family and they feel distant
- With kids between the ages of 5-12 I often use play therapy and art therapy techniques to help deal with their emotional issues and behavioral issues such social anxiety, social anxiety, school, issues, bullying and ADHD. If trauma is involved I often use Trauma focused CBT (TF-CBT) to help children move past their traumatic experience
- With adolescences between the ages of 13-17 years old, I often use art and music therapy techniques alongside talk therapy to assist with issues such as discovering their identity, whether that’s regarding sexual preferences, race or cultural identity, problems with social anxiety, school issues, bullying, peer pressure, ADHD, and other issues. If trauma is included we use trauma based techniques such as Trauma focused CBT (TF-CBT) or EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing)
- Additionally, in this day and age, with social media hijacking out kid’s attention at increasingly younger ages, it’s important to have someone to help them regulate their own self-awareness and ability to choose where to place their attention.
